I am an experienced Trauma Informed Therapist and Counsellor, and a specialist in child abuse issues, with my own private practice in Leicester. I also work as a Therapist for Better Help; an online therapeutic organisation with clients around the world, and as a Counsellor for two local Cancer charities (details below).
I combine my knowledge of several different therapeutic disciplines to blend a unique approach for each individual; working together with clients to help them to move towards what they wish to achieve; developing greater understanding of themselves and what has been holding them back.
Prior to starting any therapy work I like to have a brief chat with new clients, either over the phone or in person, to find out what they are looking for and where they
want to get to on their therapeutic journey. I will then make some suggestions based on my experience as to how I think their particular issue can be approached and, together, we create a
positive way forward.
Whatever the issue, the benefit of being able to draw on a range of different therapies is that, each time I work with a client, I offer an individual fit for
what they need rather than trying to fit them into a particular therapeutic approach.
Hypnotherapy Practitioners Diploma
I achieved my Practitioners Diploma in Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy several years ago, through Mindworks in Nottingham, and have used my skills to successfully help clients in managing a wide
variety of personal difficulties including anxiety, lack of confidence, irrational fears, inability to relax and travel sickness, to name a few.
Registered Bach flower Remedy Practitioner
One of the first therapeutic qualifications I gained and still one of my favourites. I trained with Tessa Jordon in Suffolk. Bach flower Remedies are a lovely gentle approach to use with
clients who are nervous of the therapeutic process, and are particularly effective with children.
Master Practitioner in Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT)
My EFT training was begun at Mindworks but completed to Master Practitioner level through THE AMT. I work using a more modern style of EFT developed by Silvia Hartmann, a pioneer in the area of Energy Psychology who went on to create 'Positive EFT.'
Person-Centred Counselling Diploma
The qualification that creates the foundation for everything else; my Counselling training was completed at South Leicestershire College in Wigston, Leicestershire.
During my training I was a volunteer counsellor with Quetzal; a Leicester based charity for women who have been sexually abused as children, and Mosaic; a charity providing support to people withe disabilities throughout the county. On completion of my training I was a voluntary counsellor for Place 2 Be in Nottingham; working with primary school children who needed emotional support.
Practitioner Diploma in Parks Inner Child Therapy (PICT)
This therapy gets to the very heart of most issues in a gentle and powerful way and is so effective, I think everyone should experience it!
I trained with Susan Osbourn in Suffolk to gain my PICT qualification and now work for Imara in Nottingham, helping young people with troubled and abusive pasts to move forward and take control of their lives. I also see private clients using this wonderfully all-encompassing approach.
I am now a PICT Supervisor, which means that I guide other Practitioners through their work
Guild of Energists Energy Healer for Animals
A new direction for me but one that is both exciting and a pleasure to be involved in. I qualified as an Energy Healer for Animals in September 2019 through the same body as I achieved my EFT Master Practitioner status. Silvia Hartmann worked with animals before she worked with people and so sees this as a natural fit in terms of energy work. There is much here that can be just as beneficial for people as it is for their pets, and healing both together can work wonders. In this field I work mainly using distant healing techniques as they are effective without stressing the animal.
EMDR Training
Completed at the EMDR Centre London. Training in Standard Protocol for dealing with Trauma. Levels One, Two and Three completed.
Lifespan Integration
Level Two (Practitioner Level) training completed - Baseline (plus), PTSD, Standard and Relationship Protocols completed in this powerful trauma focused approach.
I am a qualified Further Education Teacher with extensive experience of teaching Life and Employment Skills to Adults with Learning Difficulties, predominantly Autism. I combine my skills as a teacher and therapist to educate adults experiencing mental health issues in confidence building skills, and to deliver workshops and training to other service providers.
I have recently finished working as a Trauma Care Practitioner for a charity in Nottingham called Imara, which specialises in supporting families through the trauma of Sexual Abuse from a therapy as well as an advocacy standpoint.
Birstall Bags offer Counselling support which is either face to face or via Zoom or WhatsApp. This is open to people in Birstall and the surrounding villages although, if there are spaces available, anyone from other areas can access this service. Please give me a call if you think this may be for you or anyone you know.
I coordinate the Birstall Bags Time Out Cancer Support Group on the Second and Fourth Wednesdays of each month, from 1:30- 4:00. This is run in conjunction with the Sue Young Cancer Centre and is a drop-in support group held at Wanlip Village Hall. Free tea, coffee and complementary therapies are available to anyone affected by Cancer, either directly or otherwise.
Together Against Cancer hosts wellbeing events and has a strong focus on the support that good nutrition can provide for everyone, but particularly where Cancer is present. Counselling is provided through TAC but at my own private practice on Glenfield Road, or via Zoom or WhatsApp. Please contact the charity directly to register and make an appointment.
I am fully insured - details available on request.
I have an Enhanced DBS status.
Please note that I do have a Cocker Spaniel named Daisy who may be around. She is a rescue and has not been with us long but is settling in well and has a wonderful temperament. She does not come into sessions yet but I'm hopeful that one day she will, if appropriate. Please ask if you would like me to keep her well away.
